Our Clients requested a Traditional English Style Kitchen for their San Mateo County Home. We designed and fabricated the Kitchen Cabinets with traditional fine cabinetry details such as: Recessed & Raised Panel Doors set flush inset with exposed knuckle hinges, custom made moldings and fine detailing, with a complex finish that required staining the wood, then paint it, rub thru the paint in places, and then glaze and finally top coat it to re-create a fine warm Antique feeling and look. Working closely with the home owners and the builder, Jess Alway, Inc., Patty Jones of Patty Jones Design, LLC selected and designed interior finishes for this custom home which features distressed oak wood cabinetry with custom stain to create an old world effect, reclaimed wide plank fir hardwood, hand made tile mural in range back splash, granite slab counter tops with thick chiseled edges, custom designed interior and exterior doors, stained glass windows provided by the home owners, antiqued travertine tile, and many other unique features. Patty also selected exterior finishes – stain and paint colors, stone, roof color, etc. and was involved early with the initial planning working with the home architectural designer including preparing the presentation board and documentation for the Architectural Review Committee.

We anchored the kitchen with a large custom island that features a gorgeous single hand-hammered copper sink, bronze faucets and two dish washers. Along the wall is a French culinary handmade La Cornue stove and custom-built range hood that creates a stunning focal point. It’s surrounded by classic white stacked cabinetry—the left- and right-side cabinets flush with the countertops. The top row of cabinets is designed with glass-paneled doors and in-cabinet lighting perfect for highlighting kitchen collectibles. A convenient way to save valuable counter space, and help provide a clean, clutter-free look for the kitchen, we installed an appliance garage with plenty of storage. The large, walk-in pantry was designed with convenient roll out shelves. The kitchen countertops were topped with Taj Mahal quartzite, which were polished in a leathered finish to create the rustic feel our clients were looking for. Two large refrigerator/freezer combo units were designed into the space to provide plenty of food storage, both fresh and frozen. A convenient “Command Center” was added to one end of the refrigerator wall, concealed behind the cabinet doors, to store mail, a kid’s activity calendar, school papers, a bulletin board, etc. The base cabinet between the kitchen and great room was designed with plenty of drawers and a high-power docking station for charging multiple devices, including tablets, phones, reading devices, and headsets.

Rustic-Modern Finnish Kitchen Our client was inclined to transform this kitchen into a functional, Finnish inspired space. Finnish interior design can simply be described in 3 words: simplicity, innovation, and functionalism. Finnish design addresses the tough climate, unique nature, and limited sunlight, which inspired designers to create solutions, that would meet the everyday life challenges. The combination of the knotty, blue-gray alder base cabinets combined with the clean white wall cabinets reveal mixing these rustic Finnish touches with the modern. The leaded glass on the upper cabinetry was selected so our client can display their personal collection from Finland. Mixing black modern hardware and fixtures with the handmade, light, and bright backsplash tile make this kitchen a timeless show stopper. This project was done in collaboration with Susan O'Brian from EcoLux Interiors.
